April 2018, ein Jahr ist es her. Als ich gestern die Scans der Negative anschaute, kam es mir wie eine kleine Ewigkeit vor, dass ich mit dem kleinen Mietwagen die Hauptstraße der Insel entlang fuhr und Schafe und Ziegen zählte. Ab und an ausstieg, mich auf die warmen Kieseln direkt ans Meer legte, den Kopf auf den kleinen Rucksack bettete und dem Plätschern der Wellen lauschte, bis ich einschlief. Und abends dann im Café saß, am Weißwein der Insel nippte und den jungen Katzen bei Ihrem Spiel zusah. Vor längerer Zeit las ich in einem ein Interview mit dem Fotografen Jürgen Teller, was der zu tun gedenke, wenn seine Arbeiten auf dem launischen Kunstmarkt mal nicht mehr so gefragt sein sollten. Und der entgegnete in seiner trocken-ironischen Art, er könne sich auch vorstellen, auf griechischen Inseln Katzen zu fotografieren, bis ans Ende seiner Tage.

April 2018, one year ago. Now, that I review the grainy looking scans of the Kodak Tri-X negatives I shot with my Leica M6 and the Voigtländer Nokton it seems a very long time since I drove with a rental car the main road of Samothrace, counting sheeps and goats. Sometimes I left the car and lay down on the warm pebbles near the sea, listening to the lapping of waves. Until I finally fell asleep. Then, in the evening, I was sitting in a café, drinking the white wine of the island celebrating the enigmatic presence of cats. Once I read an interview with the famous photographer Jürgen Teller, who was asked what he would do, if his work wouldn‘t be demanded any more by the capricious art market. In his characteristic laconic and ironic way he answered he could imagine himself shooting cats on Greek islands for the rest of his time.
