Seascape with Friends – Zeeland

This time I wanted to bring just an analog camera with me. The small, beautiful and remarkably heavy Rollei 35 with a Tessar lens. Loaded with Kodak Portra 400 (pushed one stop). Every year I travel with a bunch of good friends to the Netherlands for a few days at the sea in winter time. This year was special, because I was awaiting a not so pleasant medical examination. The fresh salty wind and the presence of friends diminished the burdens on my shoulders. Lifted me up. As did the beautiful light on that Sunday afternoon, near Zoutelande. The Rollei captured the scene like no digital camera can do – with a soft, almost painterly quality.

Dieses Jahr wollte ich nur eine analoge Filmkamera mitnehmen. Die kleine, schöne und bemerkenswert schwere Rollei 35 mit einem Tessar Objektiv. Darin ein Film Kodak Portra 400. Jedes Jahr fahr ich mit ein paar guten Freunden für ein paar Tage im Winter nach Holland. Dieses Jahr war es auch deswegen speziell, weil eine nicht angenehme medizinische Untersuchung bevorstand. Der kräftige, salzige Wind und die Anwesenheit der Freunde vertrieben die Sorgen, nahmen mir Gewicht von den Schultern. Erleichterten mich. So wie das Nachmittagslicht an diesem Sonntag nahe Zoutelande. Die Rollei fing die banale Szenerie ein wie das keine digitale Kamera kann – mit einer weichen, fast malerischen Qualität.
