Walking in a cemetery calms me down. You are in a city, pass the entrance – and you’re immediately transported into a different space. As if the sound of the city is muted by a heavy green curtain. So is your mood. You can find the tombs of many famous people in Cimetière Montparnasse but I wasn’t looking for the graves of Baudelaire or Sartre. I was hoping for that very special calmness you only get in a cemetery. Montparnasse didn’t disappoint me.
Auf Friedhöfen spazieren zu gehen beruhigt mich. Du besuchst eine Stadt, gehst durch den Eingangseines Friedhofs und wirst sofort in eine andere Welt transportiert. Als ob der Sound der Stadt von einem schweren dunkelgrünen Vorhang gedämpft würde. So wie deine Stimmung. Man kann die Grabsteine viele berühmter Toter im Friedhof von Montparnasse finden. Aber ich war nicht wegen Gräber von Baudelaire oder Sartre dort. Ich war dort wegen der ganz besonderen Art von Ruhe, die man vielleicht nur auf Friedhöfen findet. Montparnasse hat mich nicht enttäuscht.
